En octubre de 1918, funda en Munich el \u00abC\u00edrculo de los Trabajadores Pol\u00edticos\u00bb (<em>Politischer Arbeitszirkel<\/em>) junto con el cerrajero Anton Drexler. El 5 de enero de 1919, funda el Partido de los Trabajadores Alemanes (<em>Deutsche Arbeiterpartei<\/em>, DAP) con Drexler, Dietrich Eckart, Hermann Esser, Gottfried Feder y Emil Maurice. Posteriormente se afili\u00f3 el fil\u00f3sofo Alfred Rosenberg. En el DAP fue elegido Presidente, siendo el primer l\u00edder \u00abnacional\u00bb de este Partido; luego le entreg\u00f3 la presidencia a Anton Drexler.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En septiembre de 1919, se uni\u00f3 al partido un cabo del Ej\u00e9rcito llamado Adolf Hitler, quien posteriormente desplazar\u00eda a Harrer y a Anton Drexler. Harrer termin\u00f3 dimitiendo de su cargo los d\u00edas finales de 1919 ante las presiones de Hitler, quien logra que la Junta Organizadora del DAP lo expulse de sus filas el 5 de enero de 1920. Harrer describ\u00eda a Hitler como megal\u00f3mano, lo que acentu\u00f3 sus diferencias. Anton Drexler asume la presidencia del naciente partido luego de la salida de Harrer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Con la dimisi\u00f3n de Harrer se fracturan las relaciones del DAP con la Sociedad Thule. Harrer muri\u00f3 el 5 de septiembre de 1926 en Munich de causas naturales.
